The freecooling system is a cooling method based on the principle of using cold outdoor air directly to meet cooling requirements during periods when the outside air is cold, without the need for mechanical cooling. This system is used to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs, particularly in areas with a continuous cooling requirement such as data centers, telecommunication rooms, industrial facilities and large office buildings.

 

Operating Principle

Freecooling is generally used effectively in climates where the outdoor temperature is low for a large part of the year. The system activates when the outdoor air temperature is lower than the indoor temperature. The cooling process can be carried out in the following ways:

 

1. Direct Freecooling: Outdoor air is filtered and directed straight into the indoor spaces. This method lowers the ambient temperature without the need for mechanical cooling. However, the humidity level and cleanliness of the incoming air must be kept under control.

 

2. Indirect Freecooling: Outdoor air is passed through a heat exchanger, so that the indoor air is cooled without mixing directly with the outside air. This method meets the indoor space's requirement for clean air while also preserving air quality.

 

3. Hybrid Freecooling: This method uses a combination of freecooling and mechanical cooling. When the outdoor air temperature is not sufficient, the mechanical cooling system engages, so that the system continuously operates at optimal efficiency.
